Ganymede, a Trojan youth, was abducted by Zeus (who was in the form of an eagle) and taken to Mt. Olympus, where he served as cup-bearer to the gods. The myth served as the model for relationships between men and youths in ancient Greece.
Ganymede was honored as the Genius of the river Nile, and may today be seen in the constellation of Aquila, the Eagle.
